Folders in a data room
A deal is not a flat list of files. Structure is how a buyer finds the thing they were asked to look at, and how you give one adviser one part of the room without giving them all of it.
- Available on
- All plans
- Nesting
- As deep as the deal needs
- Sharing
- A link can target one folder
What it does
Build the room out into folders and nest them as deep as the deal needs. Rename, move and delete act on the folder you are standing in.
Members see the structure and contributors can add to it, so the people preparing a room do not have to route every upload through one person.
Sharing one folder rather than the whole room
A share link can target a single folder. That is how a tax adviser gets the tax folder, a lender gets the financials, and neither of them gets a view of the rest of the room.
It is the same link everywhere else in the product: tracked, revocable, and carrying whatever gate you put on it. Narrowing what a link reaches does not change how it behaves.
Questions
Folders, answered
Yes. A share link can target a folder, and the recipient reaches that folder rather than the room it sits in.
Members see the structure and contributors can add to it, so preparation does not bottleneck on one person.
No. A folder link is issued against the folder itself rather than against its position in the room, so renaming it or moving it leaves every link already sent working. Deleting the folder does end its links, which is the point of deleting it.
