If you are looking for an Intralinks alternative, the difference between the two products is less about features than about how you are allowed to buy. Intralinks is the original enterprise virtual data room: it describes itself as having "pioneered the virtual data room", it is owned by SS&C, and its homepage claims more than $35 trillion of financial transactions facilitated through its M&A solutions. It is also sales-led all the way down. There is no pricing page on intralinks.com, no self-serve trial of VDRPro, and its support documentation sits behind a login. 99 Data Rooms is the self-serve counterpoint: the whole price list is on the pricing page, you can start free in minutes without speaking to anyone, and you can check what we say for yourself rather than taking it on trust.

That distinction decides most of these comparisons. If you run regulated, cross-border processes with a dedicated deal team and a procurement function, a sales-led enterprise vendor is not a problem, it is the point. If you are a UK founder or a mid-market team where the budget matters and the raise starts on Monday, the same model is friction: a demo call before you can see a number, and a five-figure annual floor if the third-party estimates are anywhere near right.

An honest comparison

Intralinks publishes far less about its product and pricing than a self-serve vendor does, so the column below says "not published, quote-based" or "check with Intralinks" wherever their position is genuinely not stated on their own site. Where a capability is described in their support materials, we have said so without asserting which plan it lands on, because those articles are login-gated and we could not read them.

Read the two columns together and the shape is clear. On the deal-mechanics that a UK small or mid-sized team actually uses day to day, gating, viewer analytics, watermarking, e-signature and drafting, we can tell you exactly what you get and at what price. On scale, certification breadth and a global support organisation, they can point to things we cannot.

Fair credit, and it is substantial. Intralinks states it holds ISO 27001 and ISO 27701, and it describes itself as the first VDR provider to achieve ISO 27701, plus SOC 1/2/3. That is a wide certification set for a data room vendor, and the ISO 27701 claim is specific and checkable rather than vague. Its audits page adds that it has "passed hundreds of demanding client-led audits" since 2014, with more than 170 clients performing audits or due diligence on its security operations. For a bank or a regulated corporate whose procurement team will send a security questionnaire before anything else happens, that history is worth real money.

The scale is real too, at least as consistently stated across their own pages: backing from SS&C, a stated "$6B+ revenue" parent, 115 offices in 35 countries, and a community they put at 515,000 individuals from more than 100,000 organisations. Those figures are self-reported and we have not verified them independently, but a global office footprint with a London office and offices across the EU, paired with a stated 24/7/365 support organisation in 140-plus languages, is the sort of thing a cross-border deal team genuinely needs at 2am in a different timezone. We do not have that, and pretending otherwise would be silly.

Where 99 Data Rooms wins

We win on the parts of buying software that a sales-led model takes away from you: seeing the price, starting today, and checking the claims. Every plan and price is published, flat in pounds, Pro at £19 a month and Business at £49 a month, with no per-seat surcharge and no quote required. The free tier is a permanent tier rather than a trial: three rooms and twenty-five active links, forever, with no card. Intralinks publishes no pricing at all, so every number you will read about it online is somebody else's estimate. For what it is worth, per third-party estimates the annual floor sits in five figures, with one widely repeated blog figure putting a minimum engagement at around $10,000 a year; verify any of that with Intralinks, because they do not publish it and we cannot confirm it.

The second win is verification. Our product claims are enforced by automated tests that run on every change, so a page cannot quietly outrun the product, and our public read-only Model Context Protocol server at mcp.99datarooms.com/mcp answers questions about the product from the source, which means an AI assistant can check us rather than paraphrase our marketing. Our security posture is published on the security and trust pages instead of being gated: UK hosting in London with primary data resident in the UK and encrypted backups in an EU region, AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit, per-tenant row-level security in Postgres with its own gating test suite, and a DPA on request. On certifications we are deliberately precise: SOC 2 and ISO certifications are held by our infrastructure providers, Supabase and Cloudflare, not by 99 Data Rooms. We run on their audited platforms and do not claim their audits as our own.

The third win is that one document travels the whole way in one place. You can draft a UK agreement from vetted England and Wales clauses in the built-in AI legal drafter from Pro, which assembles vetted clauses rather than inventing legal wording and is a starting point, not legal advice. You gather documents into a room, gate it with a verified email and a one-time code, and on Business require NDA acceptance before anyone sees a page. You watch page-by-page who read what, watermark each viewer's copy on Business so a leak is traceable, sign in place with an audit certificate carrying signer IP, intent-to-sign consent, timestamps and a SHA-256 fingerprint, and revoke access in one click when the deal closes. Electronic signatures are admissible for most commercial documents in England and Wales, with exceptions including deeds, wills, land transfers and lasting powers of attorney. For a company account, an Enterprise organisation carries unlimited seats, with billing scaling on storage and AI capacity rather than headcount.

Where we would not recommend us

Our gaps are real and worth naming. We are a newer platform with a shorter track record than a vendor that helped create the category. We hold no first-party certifications, only our providers' audited platforms, which will matter if your counterparty's questionnaire demands the vendor's own ISO certificate. E-signature is capped at five a month on Pro before Business lifts it. We have no 24/7/365 phone support and no 140-language support organisation, and we do not have offices in 35 countries. If your process is a regulated, multi-jurisdiction transaction with a dedicated deal team, named customer success managers and overnight coverage as a hard requirement, Intralinks' scale and support organisation is genuinely worth paying for and we would rather you knew that from us. If you want a second enterprise incumbent alongside it, our Datasite comparison covers the same ground, and the best virtual data room providers in the UK roundup puts the wider field in context.

How to compare them properly

Ask Intralinks for a written quote covering the minimum term, the notice period, and whether pricing is per user, per page or per deal, because none of that is published and the answer changes the total sharply. Ask where your data will physically sit, since their security page describes in-region storage generically without naming a UK location. Then run a real document through 99 Data Rooms free in parallel and time it: uploading, gating, sharing and signing should take minutes, not a procurement cycle. Comparing a live product against a quote is the only fair test, and it costs you nothing on our side. Our template library is a reasonable place to find a document to test with.

Try the self-serve alternative free

You can see our whole price list without asking, and you can use the product without paying: three rooms, twenty-five active links, forever, no card. Start for free, run one real document through drafting, gating, tracking and signing, and decide against the thing rather than against a table. If the answer is that your deal needs Intralinks' scale, that is a fine answer, and you will have reached it in an afternoon instead of a sales cycle.

Questions, answered
How much does Intralinks cost?

Intralinks does not publish pricing. There is no pricing page on intralinks.com as at 1 September 2026, so the only way to get a number is to request a demo and a quote. Per third-party estimates the annual floor sits in five figures, with one widely repeated figure putting a minimum engagement at around $10,000 a year, but that is an estimate and not an Intralinks-published price, so verify it with Intralinks.

Does Intralinks have a free trial?

No self-serve free trial of their core data room product is published on their site; the published route is to request a demo. 99 Data Rooms has a permanent free tier instead of a trial: three rooms and twenty-five active links, forever, with no card required. That means you can test a real document end to end before you decide, and run the two evaluations in parallel.

Is 99 Data Rooms as secure as Intralinks?

We publish what we can prove. 99 Data Rooms is UK-hosted in London with primary data resident in the UK and encrypted backups in an EU region, AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit, per-tenant row-level security in Postgres and a DPA on request. The SOC 2 and ISO certifications behind our stack are held by our infrastructure providers, Supabase and Cloudflare, not by 99 Data Rooms. Intralinks states it holds ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 1/2/3 in its own name, which is a genuine advantage if your counterparty demands first-party certificates.

When is Intralinks the better choice?

When scale and support are the requirement. For regulated, cross-border transactions run by a dedicated deal team, Intralinks' decades in the category, first-party certifications, global office footprint and stated 24/7/365 support in 140-plus languages are real and we cannot match them. We are the better fit for UK founder-led and mid-market work where the budget matters, the timeline is short, and self-serve speed beats a procurement cycle.

What does 99 Data Rooms include that I would otherwise buy separately?

Drafting, gating, tracking and signing sit in one place. You get an AI legal drafter with 17 vetted England and Wales templates from Pro, verified-email and one-time-code access, NDA acceptance and per-viewer watermarking on Business, page-by-page viewer analytics, and built-in e-signature from Pro at five a month, unlimited from Business. The executed PDF carries an audit certificate with signer IP, intent-to-sign consent, timestamps and a SHA-256 fingerprint.

How can I check the claims on this page?

Independently, which is the point. Every Intralinks claim here is linked to the Intralinks page it came from in the Sources list, with the fetch date, and anything they do not publish is marked as unpublished rather than guessed. On our side, product claims are enforced by automated tests that run on every change, and our public read-only MCP server at mcp.99datarooms.com/mcp answers questions about the product from the source.
